AUDIO - SZ-Podcast: Nahostkonflikt - Tage des Zorns

Freedom Flotilla Sets Sail to Challenge Israel’s Blockade of Gaza (VIDEO)
  - 22. 5. 2018 - A four-ship Freedom Flotilla has set sail for the Gaza Strip to challenge Israel’s decade-old blockade of the besieged territory.

The Al-Awda, Arabic for The Return, vessel set sail a week ago from Norway and linked up with three other boats in Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday, before beginning a tour of European ports which will end in the Gaza Strip.

A statement said: “In response to the brutal Israeli blockade, for seven years, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition has carried out non-violent direct actions aimed at raising international awareness and putting pressure on the international community to end it. We will continue to put pressure on our governments and protest their complicity with Israel’s crimes against humanity.”

'Freedom Flotilla' sets sail from Sweden to the Gaza Strip
- Before this year's Gaza flotilla left Gothenburg, a solidarity ceremony was held in the Swedish city with the participation of hundreds of left-wing activists from Scandinavia and Europe. -  Juliane Helmhold - 16. 5. 2018

Three ships linked to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition left Gothenburg in Sweden on Tuesday, determined to break the blockade of Gaza, The Jerusalem Post’s sister publication Maariv reported.

The flotilla was led by a fishing boat named Al-Awda (Arabic for return), which left the Norwegian port of Bergen on April 30, and also included the Heria (Arabic for freedom) and Maird, named after Irish Nobel Peace Prize laureate and BDS activist Mairead Maguire, who was on board a 2010 flotilla.

In the coming weeks, a fourth ship called Palestine is expected to join the flotilla, which will pass through ports in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. The crew, which consists of activists from 20 countries, including Israel, will change several times during the journey.

According to Canada Boat to Gaza website, the flotilla is expected to reach the Gaza Strip within 75 days.

“In response to the brutal Israeli blockade, for seven years the Freedom Flotilla Coalition has carried out nonviolent direct actions aimed at raising international awareness and putting pressure on the international community to end the blockade,” a statement on the website reads.

“We sail this year for the right to a just future for Palestine... We will continue to put pressure on our governments and protest their complicity with Israel’s crimes against humanity. We sail again to stand with the Palestinians of Gaza, as they demand their freedom of movement and their right to a just future in their land,” the statement continues. >>>

The researchers have developed unique measures for the “wounds inside,” which impact “ease” and “dis-ease” such as suffering and humiliation.

A Monologue with the ‘Other’: the inauthenticity of discourse under occupation
Middle East Eye 8 March — Following up on the protest regarding the scheduling of the International Association of Relational Psychotherapists and Psychoanalysts, psychiatrist Dr. Samah Jabr examines “the dialectical relationship between the psychological and political.” She exposes the arrogance and elitism that lies behind the arguments offered by the IARPP to hide its “subtle support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine.” Dr. Jabr challenges the powerful who assume “ownership of the virtuous language of ‘dialogue’ and ‘empathy’ while asserting that Palestinians who decline their invitation might be indulging in the reprehensible language of ‘splitting,’ ‘non-inclusiveness’ or ‘acting out.’” Dr. Elizabeth Berger reviews the history of the protest and explains, “protest initiatives of a professional nature do not silence dialogue, as has often been argued in criticism of cultural and academic boycotts. The process and the goal of such protest actions, on the contrary, bring to the surface in creative ways latent disagreements so that they can be discussed openly.” For more information on the USA Palestine Mental Health Network, see website. 'Sometimes dancing, sometimes furious': a girl shot dead in Gaza
- Wesal Sheikh Khalil was an ordinary teenager confronting an extraordinary political situation - Oliver Holmes and Hazem Balousha in al-Bureij, Gaza - 21. 5. 2018 - Sari Jamal

The family of Wesal Sheikh Khalil say that in a matter of weeks the teenager experienced a complete transformation, from a hop-scotching child to an adolescent infuriated by injustice in Gaza.

“You are cowards,” she screamed at her aunts when they refused to join protests at the border, where health officials say Israeli forces have killed more than 110 and shot thousands since demonstrations began in late March.

Her immediate family, impoverished even by the coastal enclave’s dire standards, had been unengaged in politics. Wesal and her 11-year-old brother were the only ones who trekked weekly to the perimeter, into the surging crowds and the black smoke of burning tyres. Their siblings tried to stop them, but they would sneak out.

“She kept saying: ‘You have to go. You have to go,’” recalled one aunt, Ahlam, 30. “She was the most dedicated of all of us.”

Wesal, 14, was shot dead on May 14, one of more than 60 people killed as Israeli snipers fired on protesters. The teenager has left behind a family who are grieving, but who also feel purpose in their loss.

“Now she is dead, I’m ready,” said another aunt, Anwar. “After what she did, we are not afraid.” >>>
